I took this photograph in 2015 during a sunset cruise in Corfu. I had taken a tour to the Blue Lagoon with the ship and had an amazing time sailing. I had been to a waterpark, and the Captain showed us his home town, a tiny seaside village in a very tropical and undeveloped region in the south of the Island. There were shops built in among trees and it was busy with lively locals drinking fresh fruit juice bought from the shops and trying to avoid the heatwave that was happening. It was beautiful but mostly I enjoyed the open ocean and endless horizon, I never wanted to see land again. I had spoken much to the Captain’s friend and he seemed to enjoy talking to me. So much so that he invited me back to the ship later that evening for a sunset cruise with free wine. It was a beautiful evening, the heat relieved by the sea breeze. We joked about the Captain and his friend trying to get me drunk with endless white wine. When it was time to return they asked me to stay, trying to convince me that I could easily afford to live in Corfu and even offering to let me stay on the ship.
